Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ordering live plants online, shipping, plant care, wholesale pricing, and visiting our Jurupa Valley greenhouse.
Shipping & Delivery
Do you ship live plants to all 50 US states?
Yes! Riverside Greenhouses ships live plants to all 50 US states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Every order is carefully packaged with protective materials and insulation to ensure your plants arrive healthy and ready to thrive. We ship via USPS and UPS with tracking included on every order.
How long does plant shipping take?
Most orders ship within 1–3 business days. Transit time is typically 2–5 business days depending on your location. We ship early in the week (Monday–Wednesday) to avoid plants sitting in warehouses over weekends. You'll receive a tracking number via email once your order ships.
How are live plants packaged for shipping?
Each plant is individually wrapped, secured in its nursery pot, and placed in a sturdy corrugated box with protective padding. We use breathable packaging to allow airflow while preventing damage during transit. In extreme temperatures (below 40°F or above 95°F), we add heat packs or insulation at no extra charge to protect your plants.
What if my plant arrives damaged?
Take photos immediately and email us at info@riversidegh.com within 48 hours of delivery. We'll send a free replacement or issue a full refund — no hassle. Our plant health guarantee covers every order we ship.
Do you ship plants internationally?
Currently, we only ship live plants within the United States. International shipping of live plants requires phytosanitary certificates and USDA inspection, which we do not currently support. We ship to all 50 US states including Alaska and Hawaii.
Is shipping free?
Yes! Riverside Greenhouses offers free shipping on all orders within the continental United States. Orders to Alaska and Hawaii may incur a small additional shipping fee due to distance and temperature-controlled packaging requirements.
How do I track my order?
Once your order ships, you'll receive an email with a tracking number and link. You can also log into your account to view order status and tracking information at any time.
Plant Care
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Unbox your plant immediately upon arrival. Water lightly if the soil feels dry. Place in bright, indirect light for the first 5–7 days while your plant acclimates. Avoid direct sunlight, repotting, or fertilizing for at least 2–4 weeks after arrival. Some leaf drop or wilting during transit is normal — most plants recover within a week.
Are plants ready to repot when they arrive?
Plants arrive in their original nursery pots. We recommend waiting 2–4 weeks before repotting to let them adjust to their new environment. When you do repot, go up only 1–2 inches in pot size and use well-draining soil appropriate for the plant species.
Do you include plant care instructions?
Yes! Every product listing on our website includes detailed care information — light requirements, watering schedule, and soil preferences. We also include printed care cards in every shipment. For personalized advice, email us at info@riversidegh.com anytime.
Are your plants pet-safe?
Toxicity varies by plant species. Many tropical houseplants — including Philodendrons, Pothos, and certain Aroids — can be harmful to cats and dogs if ingested. We recommend checking the ASPCA Toxic Plant Database for your specific plant species before purchasing if you have pets.
Pet-friendly options: Spider Plants, Boston Ferns, Calathea, and many Succulents are generally considered non-toxic.
Why are my plant's leaves turning yellow?
Yellow leaves are one of the most common plant care concerns and can indicate several things:
- Overwatering — the #1 cause. Let soil dry between waterings.
- Underwatering — soil is bone dry and the plant is stressed.
- Low light — move to a brighter spot with indirect light.
- Acclimation — some yellowing after shipping is normal and temporary.
When in doubt, contact our plant experts with a photo and we'll help diagnose the issue.
What do "low light," "medium light," and "bright indirect" mean?
These are the most common light categories for indoor plants:
- Low light: No direct sun, a few feet from a window, or a north-facing window. Good for Pothos, Snake Plants, ZZ Plants.
- Medium light: Bright room but no direct sun hitting the leaves. East-facing windows are great. Good for Philodendrons, Calathea.
- Bright indirect: Near a south or west-facing window with sheer curtains, or a few feet back from the window. Good for Monstera, Fiddle Leaf Fig, most tropicals.
Each of our product pages includes specific light recommendations.
